About me…
Greetings and welcome to SharePoint Dan, my soap box to the world as to hopefully share some of my knowledge with the rest of you in hopes of increasing collaboration and communication.
Where am I from?
Good question. I live in Northern Virginia, just outside of Washington, DC, but I’ve lived here and there throughout my life.
What is it that I do?
By day I’m a network and systems engineer, working in the field of SharePoint, developing enterprise collaboration and communication solutions for clients. By trade, I have a degree in Physics and love lasers. By night, I’m an uncle and brother that enjoys goofing off and reading what everyone else is doing in the SharePoint community.
What will you find here?
As mentioned, I hope to be able to educate, assist and foster the knowledge that I’ve come across, providing tips and tricks as well as best practices and simple methodology patterns that I’ve found useful.
What are my credentials?
Without going too in depth, I’ve been working in the SharePoint field since good ole version 1 of the SharePoint platform and watched it evolve over the years. My work with SPv1 was fairly limited (maybe about two months of useful work?) and have primarily worked in the SPv2 and SPv3 worlds. I’ve worked across the spectrum of SharePoint activities to include front end kind of guy (as Spence Harbar would call it) crafting user interfaces, security and smart card integration, infrastructure planning and architecture as well as information architecture. The majority of projects I have worked on are on an enterprise scale, but no project is too little in my opinion – content types that assist in automating or better describing data are useful even in small businesses. While I may not have all the answers, I’m quite certain that my colleague Joel Ward probably has answers for those that I cannot provide answers to. And for everything else, there are always the league of extraordinary gentlemen such as Shane Young, Todd Klindt, John Ross, Joel Oleson, Andrew Connell, Michael Gannotti and several others.
